Choosing Between Destinations for Properties for Sale in Koh Samui
When choosing between destinations for properties for sale in Koh Samui, you first need to identify the area you’re interested in. Samui may be an island but each beachfront and local community has its own energy and atmosphere. On the west coast you can find the quiet Nathon with more life further down the coast at Lipa Noi. Travel down this western coastline and you come to Taling Ngam which is less touristy and boasts some upmarket properties as does Laem Sor in the south of the island. With sunset views and dreamy beaches, this side of the island boasts some fantastic properties with the price to match.
At the top, with views looking east and west sits Bophut, home to the iconic Big Buddha statue and also Fisherman’s Village which is an attractive hub of boutiques, market stalls, bars and restaurants along a pier by the sea. Choeng Mon is a popular place for property owners to live as it has a quiet beach and a good range of places to eat and drink without being rowdy.
Down the sunrise coast, Chaweng is renowned as the party capital of Koh Samui. You may not want to invest in a property to live in right in its epicentre, unless you’re looking for commercial premises or a vacation rental business. However, with its choice of shops, restaurants and nightlife, being close to Chaweng yet in a quiet neighbourhood can offer the best of both worlds. A good alternative lies south of Chaweng, in Lamai which is a lively place yet not as frenetic as Chaweng.
The great advantage of island properties is that nowhere is too far away and away from the coastline, you will find real estate prices reduce in general. However, there are lots of exclusive estates in rural locations that attract a high price tag too.
Differentiate between areas based on why you are investing and for whom? Is it for you or perhaps for your kids? Do you want a romantic getaway, secluded oasis or a hedonistic haven? It is also really important to know what areas are like during the day as opposed to once the sun goes down. A seemingly sleepy street may come alive with a vibrant market in the evenings or a beach road may turn into a late-night hangout. Focus on destination whilst also getting a sense of what’s available property-wise too.
